Gananoque Fire Department January 11, 2005

11 departments were represented, with 53 current members in attendance and 3 honorary members. President, Tim Tedford called the meeting to order at 19:30 hours.

1.0 Introduction

Host,Chief Gerry Bennett welcomed everyone, and gave a brief overview to the new facility shared by the Fire Department, Police and EMS services of Gananoque. The building is approximately 17,000 square feet and cost was approximately $2.5 million dollars.

2.0 Guest Speaker

2.1 Peter O'Hare gave a presentation regarding Firefighters Response in Personal Vehicles on Closed Roads and personal insurance issues. Please refer to Communique No. 2004-29 issued December 14, 2004.

2.2 Rob Sinclair - a Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) with the Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police gave a presentation on scene investigation and traffic collision investigations. He discussed some dos and don'ts, but also expressed the need to advise the investigating officer about you did do which may cause them to make different conclusions about the scene evidence.

3.0 Adoption of Minutes

The minutes of the November 16, 2004 meeting were read.

5.0 Correspondence

A Thank you card was received from Peter Mulvihill, thanking everyone for the attendance at his retirement party and for the lovely plague presented to him from the Mutual Aid Association and the Chiefs Association.

6.1 Health & Welfare
Nothing to report.

6.2 Fire Prevention - Greg Healy
The winners of the Fire Prevention Home Inspection Programs were the Athens Christian Public School $300.00 and the South Crosby Public School $200.00.

Risk Watch Coalition will be putting on a teachers seminar for the Risk Watch Program some time late January of February 6, 2005
The Risk Watch Puppet Show will be taped in February and should be available in early March.

Greg Healy had noted a incident involving a globe style Kerosene lamp that was used at a Christmas Party. After buring for a few minutes the glass in the globe would explode. Greg gave a demonstration of one after the meeting. They are currently investigating this with the manufacturer.

The next Fire Prevention meeting will be held February 10, 2005 at Elizabethtown-Kitley Station #3

6.3 Training - Wayne Shields
Encouraging all departments to attend the training meetings.
There will be a First Responder course held the weekend of March 4, 2005.

They are going to try and arrange a New Car Technology course again this year.
Next Trainers Committee meeting will be held February 9, 2005 at the Athens Fire Department.

6.4 EMS - Mark Urquhart
Mark has received the Emergency Patient Care Level 1 certificates from the Fire Marshalls Office, he is asking all departments to provide him with an updated roster listing and he will get the certificates out the appropriate departments.


7.0 Coordinators Report- Chief Harry Jones

Deputy Chief Chris Dwyre reported that there were 2 mutual aid activiations since our lat meeting, one to Athens on December 5 and one to Merrickville on December 13.
Don Buffett will be putting on an Air Brake endorsement course.

8.0 Unfinished Business

9.0 New Business

9.1 Chief Tim Bond submitted a request to have Peter Mulvihill made honorary member of the Mutual Aid Association. To be moved to next meeting.

9.2 The current contact information on the Leeds Grenville Fire Service Website is not up to date, Brian Normandin requested each department to review the information and to provide the webmaster Tom with any updates.

10.0 Announcements:

10.1 Chief Tim Bond, Kemptville announced they had one new member.

10.2 Kemptville announced that they are celebrating the 150th anniversary. They will be hosting the EOFA Games this year on June 24 and 25 and will be celebrating the 150th at this time. The are asking that we support them in coming and participating in there parade and the will be having a special guest speaker.

10.3 Chief Jim Purcell, Edwardsburg-Cardinal announced that they had one new member.

10.4 Chief Gerry Bennett, Gananoque announced that they have 2 new members.
