8 departments were represented, with 46 current members
in attendance and 1 honorary members. President, Tim Tedford called
the meeting to order at 19:30 hours.
1.0 Introduction
|
Host, Deputy Chief Wayne King on behalf of Chief Jim Donovan
who regretfully was unable to attend, welcomed everyone. He
introduced the Mayor of Elizabethtown-Kitley Jim Pickard who
again welcomed everyone, and thanked the fire departments for
their service in their communities.
|
2.0 Guest Speaker
|
2.1 Bernie Graveline (Technical Identification
Services Unit) and Mark Zulinski (Leeds/Grenville Crime Unit)
of the Ontario Provincial Police gave a presentation on forensic
investigation involving fires, as well they gave a discussed
the awareness of scene preservation in case a criminal activity
is suspected.

3.0 Adoption of Minutes

The minutes of the May 18, 2004 meeting were
read and adopted.

6.1 Health & Welfare
· Nothing to note since last meeting
6.2 Fire Prevention - Greg Healy
· Fire Prevention week is coming up (October 3 -
9, 2004). This years theme is "Test Your Smoke Alarms".
· A committee was formed to coordinate a program
for Fire Prevention Week. They have put together a program
for grades 1-4 and the program will be discussed at the
next fire prevention meeting.
· There are a number of departments that have not
picked up there allocated loot bags. If your department
has not picked them up, please do so as soon as possible.
· Risk Watch meeting Wednesday September 15, 2004
at Brockville Fire Station #2 at 3:45 PM.
· The next Fire Prevention meeting will be held Thursday
September 16, 2004 at Elizabethtown-Kitley Station #3
6.3 Training - Scott Tedford
· There are number of courses coming up this fall,
· First Responders Course
· Trainer Facilitators Course
· There are a number of courses being developed and
offered as regional schools to be held in and around the
area. Deputy Chief Wayne Shields and Chief Jay De Banardi
are acting as a liaisons between Wayne Sutherland of the
OFM and the training committee with regards to the regional
schools.
· Next meeting will be Wednesday October 13, 2004

7.0 Coordinators Report- Chief Harry Jones
|
· Chief Harry Jones announced the new
appointment of the Deputy Chief of Brockville Chris Dewar.
· There have been some mutual aid activiations since
the last meeting, however, departments are not sending in the
required forms.
· There will be a Zone 6 meeting Thursday September 6,
2004
· There will be a recognition dinner for retiring chief
Peter Mulvihill, Thursday September 16, 2004.
· Chief Jones was asked to follow up with the counties
with regards to the 2004 Mutual Aid Levy. Chief Jones has been
in contact with Nigel White of the Counties and we should receive
the levy by the end of the month.
· Chief Jones has requested that all fire departments
please complete and submit their emergency plans ASAP. The United
Counties will be conducting a Mock disaster sometime in November.

8.0 Unfinished Business
8.1 2004 Firefighters Memorial Parade
- The buses to the memorial service was cancelled due to lack
of interest. Out of 13 departments only 2 departments responded
to the notification of the buses. There were approximately
4-5 departments that actually ended up participating in the
either of the Canadian service or the Ottawa service.

9.0 New Business
9.1 Pre Fire Service Program (St. Lawrence
College) - Geoff Lovell is coordinating a Pre Fire Service
Program offered at the St. Lawrence College in Brockville.
The program is taching the fire fighters curriculum as set
out by the Fire Marshall's office and being used in all departments.
Part of the students requirements is community
service work. Therefore if you need assistance with fire prevention
etc. you can ask the coordinator for student assistance and
he will send some students your way.
The program is looking for an instructor for
the Fire Prevention module of the program. 3 hours every Monday
morning.
They are also looking for money to purchase
a trailer to simulate live fire training. They would like
to partner with local fire departments for purchase this trailer.

10.0 Announcements
10.1 Firefighters Skeet Shoot - to be
held September 19, 2004 at the Golden Triangle Trap &
Skeet Club, Greenbush Road of County Road 29.
10.2 Hazmat Seminar - 10th annual Hazmat
Seminar to be held October 20 - 22, 2004.
10.3 Elizabethtown-Kitley Chicken BBQ
- Elizabethtown-Kitley fire department will be having a Chicken
BBQ on Saturday October 2, 2004 at Station #1.

11.0 Next Meeting:
Please note that the next regular meeting has
been moved back a week from the regular scheduled date to
Tuesday November 16, 2004 - 19:30 hours, to be hosted by the
Front of Yonge Fire Department.
