Gananoque Fire Department September 10, 2002

Ten departments were represented, with 45 current members in attendance and 2 honorary members. President, Tim Tedford at 19:30 hours, called the meeting to order.

A minute of silence was conducted in recognition the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 events.

1.0 Introduction

Host, Chief Gerald Bennett and Mayor Sylvia Fletcher-Thomas welcomed everyone and introduced the suppliers and quests present.

2.0 Guest Speaker - Bernie Levabre - Arson investigator from Ottawa

Mr. Lavabre spoke on some of the processes they go through to prosecute and convict arsonists.

3.0 Adoption of Minutes

There were 2 corrections in the previous minutes.

· The group home that Peter O'hare had spoke of was in Central Frontenac County.\

· The memorial day parade held by Gananoque will be held October 6.

The minutes dated May 14, 2002 were adopted.

6.1 Health & Welfare

· Ron Flood of the Elizabethtown Fire Department passed away. He was 69 years of age, had been on the department for 16 years, and had been retired for 22 years.

· Ken Seymour - Kemptville Fire Department passed away

· Gord Leadbeater - Leeds and 1000 Islands Fire Department passed away.

6.2 Fire Prevention - Dan Prest

· Fire Prevention kits can be picked up September 18, 2002 at Station #2 in Brockville between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

· Fire prevention week is October 6-13. The theme for this year is "Team up for Safety".

6.3 Training- Scott Tedford

Will be holding a Pump Operators Course sometime this fall. Planning an Ice Water Rescue course January 2003. Had planned a farm rescue course this fall, has been postponed to the Spring of 2003. There will be a County First Responder Course the end of November and early December.

7.0 Coordinators Report- Chief Peter Mulvihill

The Z endorsement has changed effective September 23, 2002. There is a new course and new exam Version II.

8.0 Fire Protection Advisor's Report - Peter O'Hare

Encouraged us to try and get all of our personnel involved in Fire Prevention week, not just Fire Prevention personnel.

There will be a Fire Prevention course held by the Fire Marshalls office. There will be pre and post course assignments to complete. Please apply to Peter to sign up for the course. A location and time has not yet been selected but it will be somewhere in South Eastern Ontario.

10.1 Art Pullan - Brockville Chief Fire Prevention Officer: Art retired as the Chief Fire Prevention Officer for the City of Brockville at the end of July 2002. He has respectfully declined having a retirement dinner. It was felt that we could recognize Art's contribution and leadership in the Fire Service by inviting him to our next meeting.

Motion: A motion was put forth to have Art Pullan made an Honorary Member of the Mutual Aid Association.

10.2 Memorial Parade: The Gananoque Fire Department will host a Memorial Day Parade on October 6, 2002. Line up will be between 1:00 P.M. and 1:30 P.M., will march from the Community Centre and service will be at the United Church at 2:30 P.M.

10.3 Church Parade - Tim Bond will approach Edwardsburg/Cardinal about canceling the Church Parade originally to be held October 14, 2002.

11.0 Announcements

There will be a memorial service on September 11, 2002 in Brockville at 10:00 A.M. and a service in Gananoque at 9:30 A.M.

Fire fighters Charlie Bond and Scott Mellon of the Kemptville Fire Department have been elected as Lieutenants of the Kemptville Fire Department.

12.0 Next Meeting: Tuesday November 12, 2002 - 19:30 hours
